The Asian Arowana
The Asian Arowana is considered 'lucky' to many people, particularly those from Asian Cultures. This reputation comes from the arowanas resemblance to the Chinese Dragon. The large scales and double barbels are features that are shared with the dragon. Also, positive Feng Shui associations with water and the colors of red and gold make these fish extremely populaor for some aquarists.
Because they can grow up to 35 inches long. These fish require a large aquarium. They are territorial and may be kept with other Arowanas only in a very large aquarium. Arowanas are very good jumpers, so they require a tight fitting cover. The water should be pristine, soft, and slightly acidic while maintaining a temperature of 24-30 C (75-86 F). They are carnivorous and should be fed a high-quality diet of meaty food such as shrimp and crickets. Arowanas are surface feeders and prefer food in the upper column.
